What is the best method of tuning drums?
There are many different approaches to drum tuning. This FAQ can only give you a guideline for a basic tuning principle using a new head. Start by tightening opposite lugs on your drum just until you feel some resistance. After you have put equal tension on the drum head place your palm on the head and press it firmly. This will loosen the stiffness of the head and center it on the shell edge. Now strike the head close to each lug and adjust the tension to your desired pitch. Continue until you have an equal pitch all around the head. Tuning the bottom head will determine the overall pitch and sustain of your drum depending on how tight or loose you tune it. Further information on drum tuning is available on several drumming websites and in books and videos at your local drum store. Also check the Sound Talk forum and follow discussions there.

What is the difference between the several types of wood used for SONOR drums?
Maple, birch and basswood are the most commonly used types of wood for the manufacturing of SONOR drums series. Each wood has its own, distinct tonal quality due to its material structure and density. In addition the thickness, diameter and depth of the drum shell plus the selection of drum heads play an important role in determining the sound character. Can you fit the T.A.R. system on other brands of drums?
You can easily upgrade your existing SONOR Force 2001 and 3001 Series with the T.A.R. Mounting System. This requires the exchange the old lugs against the new lug type. For other drum brands than SONOR please verify the lug position and the distance between the lugs on the shell to ensure that T.A.R. will fit on these drums.

What is meant by bearing edge bevel?
The bearing edge bevel ist the degree of chamfer cut on the inside and outside of the shell. It is crucially important for the sound quality. Usually the bearing edge has a 45° radius on the inside. On the outside there is a small beveling. The more accurate the bearing edge is cut, the better the drum can be tuned resulting in optimum sound projection.
