AOSA 2016

SONOR Orff was again part of the biggest Orff educator development conference in the world

All over the world there are Orff Schulwerk Associations dedicated to the creative music and movement approach developed by Carl Orff and Gunild Keetman. One of the largest communities is the American Orff Schulwerk Association. Every year they hold a professional development conference for teachers, which is accompanied by the largest exhibit that entirely focuses on Orff, worldwide. This year the conference was hosted by the Philadelphia Orff chapter and held in Atlantic City, New Jersey from 2. – 5. November, 2016.

It was titled “Sailing the seven C’s” in allusion to the seven 21st century learning skills connected to Orff Schulwerk. As children create music by speaking, singing, playing instruments and moving they also engage in learning: Creativity, Critical Thinking, Collaboration, Communication, Culture, Community and Connections. At the same time the title was a play on words to this year’s location near the Atlantic Ocean.

KHS America, Inc. the SONOR distribution in the United States and SONOR have been one of the major sponsors for the conference this year. “We are glad to see Orff Schulwerk spreading among younger generations and how much these motivated and hardworking people are doing to inspire and advocate the potential of all learners. By sponsoring them we want to show our appreciation.“, says Kristin Weimann, Product Manager Education of SONOR.

More than 1.200 teachers participated in this year’s AOSA conference to take part in sessions and trainings, to enjoy and get inspired by children’s performances and to network with other teachers.

Following a long tradition, the SONOR distribution KHS America Inc. displayed the SONOR variety of Orff instruments in the conference exhibitions to give teachers the rare opportunity to test them all and to compare the different materials and features. The offer was well received.
