I've played Sonor drums for most of my life. The fullness of their sound and the sensitivity of their response have shaped the way I play. For me, "playing" is playing Sonor.
Matt Nolan is a professional drummer, singer/songwriter and playback engineer based in Nashville, TN. His performing credits include Maggie Rose, Them Vibes, Brandon Whyde, The Morrison Brothers Band, and Rude Music- a rock and roll group led by Matt and his brother Kevin. Since 2020, he has been the touring drummer for Grammy/CMA/ACM Award-Winning Country Artist Lainey Wilson. As a session musician, Matt’s playing can be heard on a handful of Lainey Wilson’s singles, but most notably on her Grammy-nominated album Whirlwind, in addition to numerous releases from artists across the country. Matt has appeared on national television performing with Lainey on The Grand Ole Opry, The Tonight Show, Jimmy Kimmel Live, The Today Show, Good Morning America, The Dallas Cowboys Thanksgiving Day Halftime Show, ACM Awards, CMA Awards, People’s Choice Awards, and many other concert broadcasts. Matt has also had a recurring role in Season 5 of Yellowstone as the drummer for Lainey’s character “Abby.”
Born and raised in Maryland, Matt began collecting records at age 7 and playing drums at age 10. Through High School, he studied drum set, Latin percussion, and classical percussion with Luis Garay and Chris Flannery. Matt earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Jazz Performance from Loyola University New Orleans where he studied under Wayne Maureau and Johnny Vidacovich.
