François Morin

Born in France in 1984 and originally from Burgundy, François Morin began studying classical piano and drums at the age of 5.

Graduate of the Auxerre Conservatory in drums and jazz classes, he continued his technical studies at the prestigious and demanding Dante Agostini National drums school, from which he obtains his superior diploma (major of promotion). Also winner of the international drum competition, he moved to Paris in 2005 and began to perform regularly in the most prestigious Parisian jazz clubs and international festivals such as Jazz à Juan-les-Pins, Jazz in Marciac, Jazz à Sète. , Strasbourg Jazz Festival, Nattjazz festivals among others.

His versatile playing leads him to be called for numerous tours in Africa within the Alliances Française in particular in Senegal, Mauritania, Gambia, Cape Verde, Togo and Benin. This contact with the richness of African music will be decisive in the creative musical development of his future artistic projects.

In 2010 François Morin moves to Brazil where he will stay there for nearly 8 years which will be filled with new musical encounters and the creation of projects.

The writing and recording of the album “Naissance” will be the best example of this. Composed around the voice as the main axis, he manages to bring together consecrated musicians from the Brazilian instrumental scene, including the composer and singer Ivan Lins who comes to record, in special participation, his composition "Lua Soberana" rearranged by François Morin.

As a result of the success of this project in Brazil, François signs 2 albums for the Japanese label Impartmaint which will release a collector's version of Naissance where we find an exclusive bonus track recorded in trio with the pianist and multi-instrumentalist André Mehmari and Nando Lauria, ex-member of the Pat Metheny Group on guitar and vocals.

As a second album, François records in duet with André Mehmari the disc “Araporã” born from a musical encounter during the recording of the disc “Naissance”. Album of pure improvisations and compositions of the duo.

Back in France in 2018, François offers, as a quintet, an acoustic reinterpretation of his Naissance project accompanied by Manuel Rocheman on fender rhodes, Sylvain Gontard on flugelhorn, Bruno Rousselet on double bass and Patrick Manouguian on acoustic guitar and embellished with new compositions .

In 2023 François releases his second album "Particules" as a leader accompanied by established artists from Europe and Brazil such as Olivier Ker Ourio, David Linx, Stéphane Chausse, Thierry Eliez, André Mehmari, Zé Renato among others. Album distributed by the Assai label.
