Ian Froman received his Bachelor's Degree from Berklee College of Music and Master's from the New England Conservatory. In 1984 he was one of ten students chosen nationwide of study under drummer Elvin Jones for a special National Endowment for the Arts 3 week seminar. In 1985, he studied with Jazz Drummer Bob Moses, Jazz Bassist Miroslav Vitous. Froman was also a participant in numerous clinics by world renowned drummers such as Ed Thigpen, Dave Weckl, Horatio Hernandez, Steve Smith, Adam Nussbaum, Jack DeJohnette, JoJo Mayer, Ari Hoenig, Chris Coleman, Lewis Nash, Ed Soph and many others.
Currently, Ian Froman is a professor at Berklee College of Music. He also teaches at the Drummers Collective, The New School (NYC), City College (NYC), Queens College (NYC) and his private studio.
Through Carl Fischer Publications, he has written an instructional book entitled Contemporary Jazz Styles for the Drums, which is part of The Collective's Contemporary Styles Series.
He has been a contributing writer in Modern Drummer magazine - Jazz Drummer's Workshop, as well as Canada's: Drums, ETC magazine.
